Episode 3: Andrew Needham, HeadBox

Really pleased to announce that Episode 3 of the Marketplace Mechanics podcast is OUT NOW!

In this episode, I was privileged to have Andrew Needham from HeadBox joining me in the studio.

HeadBox is a marketplace for booking inspiring meeting and events space all over the UK (and as of this month, Ireland!), and Andrew was generous enough to chat in-depth about the lessons learned during the early days of launching the platform.

Episode 2: Jean-Michel Chalayer, LeSalon

Marketplace Mechanics Episode 2: Jean-Michel Chalayer, LeSalon
Marketplace Mechanics Episode 2: Jean-Michel Chalayer, LeSalon

Marketplace Mechanics is BACK! After an unintentional one-year hiatus due to being busy building my own marketplace, I’m delighted to be recording MM again and to be releasing Episode 2 today.

In this episode, I speak to Jean-Michel Chalayer, the CEO & Co-Founder of LeSalon. I’ve known JM for several years now and our marketplaces are at similar stages (between Seed and Series A), so it’s always a pleasure to sit down and discuss strategy and tactics with him.

In this episode, we discuss an exciting range of topics including:

  • The early days of building a marketplace
  • Doing things that don’t scale to match supply and demand however you can
  • Supplier vetting, onboarding and training
  • Disintermediation
  • Fostering a real community within your marketplace
  • Advice for anyone considering starting a new two-sided marketplace

Episode 1: Daniel van Binsbergen, Lexoo

Ep1 v2.jpg

Marketplace Mechanics is now LIVE!

I’m delighted to release Episode 1 of the show, which features my good friend Daniel van Binsbergen (@DvanBins).

Dan is the Co-Founder & CEO, of Lexoo, and we’ve been chatting with each other about our respective marketplaces through 2017. I learn something new every time we talk, and I’m so happy to be sharing some of Dan’s insights with you today.

I’m treating Marketplace Mechanics very much like a startup. Episode 1 is a Minimum Viable product, and I am hungry for your feedback.

  • Am I asking good questions?
  • Is the sound quality good?
  • Is the episode too long, or too short?

You can find me on twitter @thejamesmcaulay and the show is @MarketplacePod, or reach out on email [email protected]

Please do share the podcast with anyone who might be interested, and you can subscribe through iTunes, Stitcher and Soundcloud.
