I’ve been on Strava since 2013 and was reflecting on why I love it during a run recently. I landed on one key differentiator…
Every other platform is full of nonsense, and Strava isn’t.
Strava is a mirror of reality.
LinkedIn has become a noisy cacophony of budding motivational gurus building “personal brands” and lazy ChatGPT generated content.
Instagram is fake and overly filtered. We share our edited highlights and the algorithm pushes unattainable lifestyle content towards us. Instagram definitely doesn’t reflect reality.
Twitter (X) feels like a dumpster fire, and pretty out of touch with reality.
Strava is for the highlights and the lowlights. The good workouts and the shit ones. It’s real, and everything is a statement of fact.
Your mate ran 5k in 19 minutes. No spin. No filters. Just a statement of fact. Everyone liking and commenting on the post is doing so out of camaraderie for something that required effort. Applauding something real that couldn’t have been edited or doctored.
Fast times can’t be bought. You can’t inherit fitness from your upper class family. You earn it, and if you get lazy, you’ll lose it.
You can’t fake your way to a good Strava activity.
No bullshit.
Just reality.
