2 months into my Ironman Training Regime (#RoadToIronman series)

Last year, I was supposed to race in Ironman Wales – an epic triathlon race that was naturally cancelled due to COVID. Thankfully, my place was rolled over to the 2021 race.

Like most athletes, my motivation waxed and waned throughout 2020, so I’m almost glad the race didn’t happen. I wasn’t training consistently last year, and I wasn’t ready to do the race justice.

This year, the Ironman is the biggest focus of my life outside of work.

How to perform live music on Clubhouse

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been performing live “piano bar” sessions on Clubhouse from 10pm to 1am on Thursdays.
(follow me @jamesmcaulay to get notified when I go live!)

It’s been a lot of fun, and I’m really excited about the future of Clubhouse for musicians.

Completing an Ironman – Why Bother?

An Ironman involves:

๐ŸŠ Swimming 3.6km
๐Ÿšด Cycling 180km
๐Ÿƒ Running 42km (a marathon)

and takes anywhere from 8 hours (7h51 world record) to 17 hours (the cut-off time).

But the race is only the tip of the iceberg.

Most definitely the "tip of the iceberg"

Friends and family will see race day and the glorious moment that you complete the challenge, but they won’t see the year of training that goes into it.

Forward Thinking Founders Podcast interview

Had a lot of fun being interviewed byย Mat Shermanย on his podcast, Forward Thinking Founders, about:

๐Ÿ“ˆ how the first week of March 2020 was actually our best ever week for Sales in Encore history (๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ)
๐Ÿ˜ท how Encore has adapted to COVID
๐Ÿง  how I managed myself and my own psychology during the toughest weeks of the pandemic
๐Ÿ”ฎ how we think the future is going to unfold in music

Thanks for having me on, Mat!

My 2019 in Triathlon – From Zero to Half Ironman in 9 months

In the last twelve months, Iโ€™ve gone from having absolutely no triathlon experience and barely being able to swim a few lengths, to completing three Sprint, Olympic and Half Ironman races in May, July and September respectively.

Iโ€™ve brought my 5k Parkrun time down from 22:02 to 18:37 (a 15% reduction), Iโ€™ve lost about 7kg from my peak weight in 2018 (a 10% reduction), and I completed my first marathon in November.

All in all, a great year!

With the 2019 Triathlon season now over and 2020 dawning, I thought Iโ€™d reflect on everything I learned in my first season as a triathlete.
